What I do

As a GP, I am trained in a broad range of medical disciplines and am comfortable seeing patients of all ages. I provide care for young children, including illness management and vaccinations; adolescents and adults, addressing general health concerns, mental health, health checks, preventative health and travel vaccinations; older adults with chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. I also perform minor surgical procedures, including skin excisions and treatment of injuries.

What will it cost?

Consultation fees vary depending on the nature and scope of the visit. I generally do not bulk-bill as Medicare often does not cover the cost of quality GP care. However, if you are experiencing financial hardship, please discuss this with me during your consultation, and I will consider bulk-billing in such cases.
DR NIGEL WOODHEAD
MBBS (Hons II), Dip Paed, FRACGP
I have been practicing as a General Practitioner since 2004, with a commitment to understanding my patients and prioritizing their best interests. My approach is collaborative, emphasizing evidence-based methods whenever possible. While I have a special interest in child health, my experience spans over 20 years and encompasses care for patients of all ages and backgrounds. It has been a privilege to care for multiple generations within some families at my current practice.
Outside of work, I am married with two teenage children and a dog. I enjoy cycling (preferably on flat terrain) and occasionally dive into woodworking projects. I also have a fondness for craft beer. Born in 1973 in Scotland to Australian parents, my early years were spent in Wales, Missouri (USA), and Belgium before our family settled in Sydney in 1986. I still speak reasonable French.
I earned my medical degree from the University of Sydney in 1998. My internship and three years of residency were completed at Gosford Hospital, where I gained extensive experience across various medical specialties. My final year focused on paediatrics, including six months on the hospital ward and six months with the community paediatric team. During this time, I also completed a Diploma of Paediatrics from the University of New South Wales and Sydney Children's Hospital.
After leaving the hospital system, I moved to the North Coast of NSW for GP training in Byron Bay and Murwillumbah, earning my GP Fellowship in 2004. I spent an additional year in Murwillumbah before returning to Sydney. There, I worked at the University of Technology Sydney’s student health clinic and a small practice in Leichhardt for three years. In 2007, I joined First Ave Family Practice, where I continue to work today.
